I never had the pleasure of meeting Lil James
in person. I know of this fine young man through
his parents, especially James', never-ending love
and determination, to keep his memory and
positive influence active. I am just a random
friend on Facebook, but because of his parents
loss, I too have love and adoration for
Lil James and his family. Bless you all.

Flash Drives

We live in a wireless world. And Wi-Fi in dorm rooms is spotty; if it goes down in your dorm room and you have to e-mail a paper to your professor before midnight, it helps to keep a flash drive around.

THE JAMES M. PERKINS MEMORIAL FUND

James M. Perkins

Hello— my name is James Jackson, father of James M. Perkins. I lost my son on June 13, 2009- To a red light runner, whose car jumped the curbside hitting James and his mother. James passed two days after his 8th grade promotion and was on his way to take a placement test at Thurgood Marshall Academy when the car accident happen. James M. Perkins was the Johnson's Junior High Salutatorian; he was a brilliant student, who loved knowledge and his community.

In 2011— Mr. J. Kenneth Kruvant got in touch with me, because he desired to donate $10,000 in memory of James M. Perkins. He left it up to me, to choose which nonprofit organization would receive the donation. I chose Total Sunshine, Inc. In 2009 my wife and I attended their 1st Annual School Grade Reward Ceremony, where they were honoring James Perkins and several other Valedictorians and Salutatorians. We were there to accept James Rewards... Everyone received tech tools, TS laptop bag, TS umbrella, TS T-shirt, gift certificates and an award certificate.

In 2011 During the 3rd Annual School Grade Reward Ceremony; Total Sunshine, Inc. unveiled The James M. Perkins Memorial Fund. It became a way for my wife and I turn our tragedy into something positive for other young people like James and keep his memory alive.  In 2012, I became a volunteer Board Member (Director) in service to our youth in James memory. Annual Digital Study Trends Survey from McGraw-Hill Education shows college students regularly use digital learning technology and find it helpful across a wide
variety of activities.

NEW YORK, N.Y. (October 17, 2016) – As the class of 2020 starts its freshman year of college, students are increasingly looking to get maximum value out of their higher education experience, and they view digital learning technology as a key tool for achieving that success, a new survey of college students in associates, bachelors and graduate programs shows.

The results also explore some of the
ways in which technology and adaptive technology in particular can improve
the student experience:

  • Half of college students feel that adaptive learning technology and online quizzes have had a major effect on their grades.
  • Two-thirds of students report that adaptive learning technology and online quizzes are very or extremely helpful in learning retention (66 percent).
  • Most college students agree or strongly agree that digital learning technology should adapt to their unique way of learning (89 percent) and be individualized (80 percent).
  • Digital learning technology leads not only to better grades, but to improvements throughout students’ academic lives: 82 percent of students say digital learning technology allows them to spend more time studying through increased accessibility; 63 percent of students say it makes them feel better prepared for class.
  • Students also feel using technology has helped with their career readiness: According to McGraw-Hill Education’s 2016 Workforce Readiness Survey released in June 2016, 85 percent of college students feel having used tech in classes or to study has helped to make them a better job candidate.
